Recommended Photo Spots ~Gion Area~

If you want to take photos with a traditional atmosphere, Gion is highly recommended! Why not take some wonderful photos in Kyoto's top tourist destination?

Gion Shirakawa

The area facing Shinbashi-dori and Shirakawa, located past Hanamikoji, is called "Gion Shirakawa". Gion developed as a geisha district (hanamachi) from the late Edo period, where people enjoyed traditional performing arts and sake with delicacies (shuko). During the Meiji era, it was known for being frequently visited by many prominent figures, literary giants, and cultural personalities from both Japan and abroad. The entire Gion Shirakawa area is designated as a traditional building preservation district in Kyoto, making it a popular spot as one of the few places where pre-war townscapes remain. It's a town where you can experience the unique atmosphere of Kyoto, and it's perfect for photo shoots in a furisode!!!

Access: Immediately from Keihan Electric Railway Main Line "Gion-Shijo Station".

Hanamikoji Street is one of the lively streets loved by tourists and locals alike, and the rows of charming teahouses evoke a serene Kyoto atmosphere. If you happen to meet a maiko, you're incredibly lucky!

(1) Keihan Electric Railway Main Line "Gion-Shijo Station" (5-minute walk)

(2) Hankyu Kyoto Line "Kawaramachi Station" (10-minute walk)

Ninen-zaka, Sannen-zaka to Kiyomizu-zaka

These two streets, designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, serve as the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and feature an atmospheric townscape, with perfect views from the top of the slopes! Once you pass through here, you can go straight to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. There's no option not to come here!
