Voice of Store Staff

Q. What kind of customers do you have?

Kyoto Station Store
Kyoto Station Store Staff

The group is mainly couples, families, and women's groups who are sightseeing in Kyoto. There are also a large number of foreign tourists, and they come from a variety of nationalities. Some of our customers don't speak English, so we use translation tools and gestures to communicate with them, but they're surprisingly easy to understand. It is especially crowded with tourists during the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. During summer fireworks and festivals, yukata rental customers gather from all over Kansai. There are many students on school trips from home and abroad.

Q. What are you doing renting a kimono?

Kyoto Station Store
Kyoto Station Store Staff

Of course, there are people who walk to the nearby Higashi Honganji and Toji temples, but since it has good access to many areas within Kyoto city, there are many people who take the bus to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, or JR trains to Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari.

Q. What kind of kimono is popular?

Kyoto Station Store
Kyoto Station Store Staff

Many people make reservations for the standard kimono plan, but many of them change to a different plan after visiting the store and looking at the extensive lineup. Lately, I've been seeing wargo's Instagram in advance and often being nominated by someone saying, "I want to coordinate this outfit." For those who like a cute style, the pattern of matching an antique kimono with an obi obi is by far the most popular, and for those who like a more mature look, the retro-modern homongi is by far the most popular one, which is a kimono worn with a fukuro obi.

Q. Visit - Experience - Return flow

Kyoto Station Store
Kyoto Station Store Staff

If you are coming for sightseeing, you can make a reservation early and come back in the evening after sightseeing. Since Kyoto Station is nearby, many people arrive by Shinkansen, rent a kimono, leave their luggage, and sightsee empty-handed. If you are wearing it for an evening event such as fireworks, you can return it the next day or have it delivered to your home.

Q. Kyoto Station Store’s appeal points

Kyoto Station Store
Kyoto Station Store Staff

Its appeal points are its easy access to various tourist spots and its easy access from Kyoto Station (it's located inside Kyoto Tower, so you can easily go there, and it's directly connected underground). I think it is very convenient for those staying at hotels near Kyoto Station or those arriving and departing from Kyoto on the same day. The store is large, so you can enjoy choosing a kimono.

Recommended sightseeing spots

Fushimi-Inari Taisha

Fushimi-Inari Taisha

Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, located in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, was built as the main shrine of Inari shrines nationwide, and is known as a shrine dedicated to praying for prosperous business and abundant harvests. The most distinctive feature of Fushimi Inari Taisha is the "Senbon Torii", a series of about 10,000 vermilion torii gates, each with the donor's name and wish written on it! While passing through the torii gate. We recommend taking your time and enjoying the scenery, and there is also a hiking course to the top of Mt. Inari, so give it a try! When you climb to the top of the mountain, you can get a panoramic view of Kyoto city and the surrounding scenery. There are many restaurants around Fushimi Inari Taisha where you can enjoy delicious Inari sushi and Inari sushi! Please stop by during your sightseeing and enjoy Kyoto's gourmet food.

Arashiyama

Arashiyama

Arashiyama flourished as a vacation home and recreational area for the aristocrats during the Heian period, and is still a popular tourist destination as a scenic spot where Kyoto's history and nature intertwine! A particularly famous spot is Togetsukyo Bridge, and we recommend taking photos with the impressive bridge, which is approximately 155 meters long, and the view of the surrounding mountains in the background. Furthermore, if you ride the Sagano Trolley train, you can see the magnificent nature and autumn leaves of Arashiyama, so be sure to visit during the autumn leaves and spring cherry blossom season! In addition, Arashiyama is not only full of historical buildings and scenery, but also has many stylish cafes, so you can enjoy Japanese sweets and matcha that are unique to Kyoto!

Toji Temple

Toji Temple

Toji, a historic temple located in Minami Ward, Kyoto City, was built as a guardian temple for Buddhism at the time of the founding of Heiankyo in 794. Toji Temple, which is also registered as a World Heritage Site, has a 57-meter-high five-storied pagoda as its symbol and is a popular photo spot! Within the precincts, there are many buildings designated as important cultural properties and beautiful sculptures, as well as the enshrinement of Yakushi Nyorai, the guardian deity of Buddhism. We also recommend taking a leisurely stroll while experiencing the history. There are also many buildings and sculptures within the temple grounds that have been designated as important cultural properties, and among them is the Yakushi Nyorai, the guardian deity of Buddhism. The cherry blossoms are illuminated in the spring, and the autumn leaves are illuminated at night in the fall, so be sure to check them out when you visit Kyoto. We recommend taking a leisurely stroll while experiencing the history!

Higashi Honganji Temple

Higashi Honganji Temple

It is the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect, located in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, and is officially called the "Shinshu Honbyo". It is the counterpart of Nishi Honganji, and is an important temple that conveys the teachings of Shinran Shonin to this day. The vast precincts are dominated by Mieido, one of the largest wooden structures in the world, creating a majestic atmosphere. When sightseeing or visiting the shrine, we recommend renting a kimono. Walking around Higashi Honganji Temple in a traditional kimono provides a special experience that harmonizes with the historic streets of Kyoto, and is perfect for commemorative photos. Please enjoy your time at Higashi Honganji Temple while deeply feeling the culture of Kyoto.
