Kyoto’s Minami-za is known as Japan’s oldest theater and is a cultural landmark for traditional arts such as kabuki. Proud of its history and elegance, Minami-za offers a wide range of programs, from classical performances to modern live entertainment, providing a Japanese cultural experience for all generations. Each year, many domestic and international visitors and cultural enthusiasts come to see it.
To enjoy Japanese culture even more deeply, we recommend watching performances in a kimono. As a special offer for Minami-za visitors, if you present your Minami-za ticket at WARGO Kyoto Gion, located just a 1-minute walk from Minami-za, you can receive a free optional service worth 500 JPY. Even on rainy days, you can travel between Minami-za and WARGO without getting wet, so don’t miss this opportunity.
From Saturday, November 2, 2024, to Sunday, November 10, 2024, the event “Journey into KABUKI – Appreciation and Experience” will be held. With the theme “Kabuki for everyone, regardless of age, nationality, or language,” the program offers more than just stage viewing. In the theater lobby, you can see and even touch props such as horses, boats, musical instruments, and costumes used in actual performances. A workshop for tsuke-uchi (essential kabuki percussion techniques) will also be held.
On stage, kabuki actors will provide humorous commentary, followed by a spectacular kabuki performance. During the commentary segment, selected audience members may be invited on stage, making the experience enjoyable even for first-time kabuki viewers and overseas visitors.

Hanamikoji Street
Hanamikoji Street is located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, and it retains a rich, traditional Japanese atmosphere. The street, with its stone-paved path dating back to the Edo period, is lined with long-established teahouses and restaurants. The lattice doors and red-painted walls create a charming ambiance. As the evening sets in, lanterns begin to light up, and the street takes on a magical, timeless atmosphere, almost as if you've stepped into the past. You can often spot maiko and geiko (apprentice and professional geisha) walking through, making this a must-visit for those who want to immerse themselves in Kyoto's unique culture. It's also a popular photo spot for those in kimono or yukata, so why not capture a memorable moment?
