Sanja Matsuri 2026 Festival Information
This is the grand festival of Asakusa Shrine, which retains the atmosphere of the Edo period. The joint procession of nearly 100 local mikoshi and the magnificent parade of the main shrine's mikoshi are truly spectacular.
Dates: May 15 (Fri), 16 (Sat), 17 (Sun), 2026
Location: Asakusa Shrine, around Senso-ji Temple, and the entire Asakusa area

May 15 (Fri): Grand Procession (including Binzasara Dance)
May 16 (Sat): Joint Procession of Local Mikoshi (approx. 100 mikoshi gather!)
May 17 (Sun): Main Shrine Mikoshi Procession through various districts

Crowds: Every year, millions of people visit during the three days of Sanja Matsuri. The area around the mikoshi, in particular, gets extremely crowded, so we recommend preparing comfortable footwear like sneakers and getting ready early.
Traffic Regulations: Large-scale traffic regulations (vehicle closures) will be implemented on surrounding roads. Please be aware of bus and taxi service statuses.
Food Stalls: Numerous food stalls line the grounds of Senso-ji Temple and surrounding alleys, where you can enjoy festival gourmet food.
